Mini Summer Theatre Academy

This two-week program is designed for students that have finished K - 2nd grade. Students will showcase their talents and better prepare them for the full Summer Theatre Academy program and main stage shows. During the program, the students will learn the basics of theatre etiquette and traditions. They will also learn a short 30-minute play that has speaking parts, songs, and dances that are tailored to their age group. The camp will meet weekday mornings for two hours and culminate in an evening performance for friends and family.

This year Mini STA performace is Lemonade, with Director Adina Van Os. Join in the fairytale frenzy when Chicken Little, the Three Little Pigs, Humpty Dumpty, the Cat with a fiddle, Little Bo Peep, Little Boy Blue and a host of other characters are having a BAD DAY! Summer Theatre Academy

Summer Theatre Academy

The area’s much-anticipated favorite will return to The Columbian Theatre this June, Summer Theatre Academy (STA). Students who have finished grades 3-8 will perform in this program. This year there will be two options, a play and a musical.  Through this program, The Columbian’s mission is to serve as a resource for local children, ranging from kindergarten to 8th grade, with a desire and passion to learn about theatre art. STA teaches responsibility, confidence, and teamwork, which are all traits that we, as an organization, hope will leave a lasting impression on these young actors and actresses.

STA registration begins April 4th for family members, April 11th for others and registration ends May 23rd.

The registration fee for STA is $150

Session One of STA (Play): The True Story of the Three Little Pigs

The big bad wolf has spent ten years in pig prison for the destruction of the three little pigs, and he has quite a story to tell that just might prove his innocence! Alexander T. Wolf writes his own account of this infamous meeting, and insists that he was railroaded in the classic fairytale. After all, it was only an innocent sneeze (he had a bad cold), and all he wanted was to borrow a cup of sugar from one of the pigs. Why is he now the bad guy?

Auditions: Tuesday, May 31st, 1:00PM-4:00 PM

Rehersals: June 6- June 24, M-F: 1:00-4:00 PM

Performance: June 24, and 25th

Session Two of STA (Musical): Willy Wonka Jr.

Roald Dahl's Willy Wonka JR. follows enigmatic candy manufacturer Willy Wonka as he stages a contest by hiding golden tickets in five of his scrumptious candy bars. Whomever comes up with these tickets will win a free tour of the Wonka factory, as well as a lifetime supply of candy. Four of the five winning children are insufferable brats, but the fifth is a likeable young lad named Charlie Bucket, who takes the tour in the company of his equally amiable grandfather. The children must learn to follow Mr. Wonka's rules in the factory — or suffer the consequences.
