Winter Theatre Academy Registration

This afterschool program is for dedicated students in 3rd to 8th grade looking to further their theatrical education. With limited enrollment, our brightest future stars can hone their craft and get the most out of their experience in this exclusive program!

The Columbian Theatre is excited to announce that the WTA production will be Annie Jr. This year's show is directed by Mindy Theirolf. Below is a little blip about the show.

With equal measures of pluck and positivity, little orphan Annie charms everyone's hearts despite a next-to-nothing start in 1930s New York City. Annie is determined to find the parents who abandoned her years ago on the doorstep of an orphanage run by the cruel Miss Hannigan. Annie eventually foils Miss Hannigan's evil machinations, finding a new home and family in billionaire Oliver Warbucks, his personal secretary, Grace Farrell, and a lovable mutt named Sandy.

Registration is $150.

Mini Summer Theatre Academy

This two-week program is designed for students that have finished K - 2nd grade. Students will showcase their talents and better prepare them for the full Summer Theatre Academy program and main stage shows. During the program, the students will learn the basics of theatre etiquette and traditions. They will also learn a short 30-minute play that has speaking parts, songs, and dances that are tailored to their age group. The camp will meet weekday mornings for two hours and culminate in an evening performance for friends and family.

Partial funding is provided by The Greater Manhattan Community Foundation & by the Wamego Parks and Recreation Department. Thank you!

Summer Theatre Academy

Summer Theatre Academy

The area’s much-anticipated favorite will return to The Columbian Theatre this July during Wamego’s Summer Theatre Academy (STA). Students who have finished grades 3-8 will perform The Lion King Jr.! Through this program, The Columbian’s mission is to serve as a resource for local children, ranging from kindergarten to 8th grade, with a desire and passion to learn about theatre art. STA teaches responsibility, confidence, and teamwork, which are all traits that we, as an organization, hope will leave a lasting impression on these young actors and actresses.

"This is our favorite place to participate in community theatre, even though we live 30 minutes away. We're also involved in some of the other activities at The Columbian. Our family highly recommends the shows, events, and experiences! "
